Career tracks for non-owner lead planners

We are looking for someone who has already had this discussion with a staff planner...  What does your career path look like?  You may never be an owner but your value as a lead planner is appreciated.  What benchmarks can we set to properly compensate, motivate and build the unity desired.  Does anyone have suggestions, resources or personal experience?  Thanks in advance!      I'm on the other end, I am a non-owner lead planner of our firm. The COO & managing parner have discussed with me the issues you raised several times and often "check in" with me about them from time to time.

My personal development plan includes goals for professional development, professional affiliation, and business development. They agree to support all of these efforts financially, as well as compensate me according to what I've negotiated. I have used the FPA business survey a few times to negotiate salary as well as provide a comparison of business structures within the planning industry.

    Hope this helps,
