July Talking Point: Opening the Lines

In the latest 10 Questions feature, CFP Board Chair Dave Strege says it plainly: they want to know what you want to hear from them and how you want it delivered.

    ·         Does the mission of CFP Board need better clarity?

    ·         How can communications from CFP Board to you be improved?

    ·         What is the common ground for a strong relationship between CFP Board and FPA? Is each group clear on its purpose?

Discuss it here with your colleagues.

The CFP Board of Standards held a Certificant Forum Webinar on Wednesday, July 9th at 1:00 p.m. EDT.  This first one lasted seventy-five minutes.  Over 800 people registered and there were at least 540 known to be involved.  Future sessions will likely be sixty minutes or less on more focused topics.

Certificants can let us know if this is one of the possible formats for future discussions with the CFP Board of Standards.

Also what are the topics you would like to discuss in this format?

Re: July Talking Point: Opening the Lines

    Hello,

The means or the end, creation or destruction, the chicken or the egg, all have been centrepoint of debate simply because neither can be more important or for that matter less important than the other.

With due respect to the Chair, the differentiation on the basis of role of preparing people versus growing the profession is not as simple in practice. I pose the question "Who are the people who prepare the people?" Aren't these the very same people who have grown with the profession? Then if FPA has to grow the profession, isn't it contributing to "preparing the people"?

It is an extremely symbiotic relationship between the one who creates the standard and the one who maintains it. Both very heavily depend on each other. Without one of them, the other just cannot exist. It is important for each one of them to take responsibilty to see it this way.

When the FPA and the CFP Board understand how important they are to each other, that's when the public will truly benefit.
