    Health Care Cost Assumptions

I am doing a research project for my company for pre-65 and post 65 health care cost assumptions.

There is a good report by the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College for post-65. You can see the report at www.crr.bc.edu

There are many variables pre-65. Any thoughts? Any resource materials? I would be happy to share my finding once I get my hands around the current research.

    Thanks,

    Doug Keegan

Hi Doug-the link for the BC research didn't work. When I was getting my master's I went to the Dept of Labor Board of Statistics and found a ton of information regarding everything a 75 year old man would be paying for on a yearly basis. You might be able to find something there.

You might want to check out this article on Fidelity's study that was done about  a year ago. It was widely quoted by the press http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/health-care-costs-retirement-rise/story.aspx?guid=%7BEF2B6CDA-E176-4747-B528-76AC814051C5%7D.

Additionally FAS (Fed Accounting Standards) 157 is requiring companies to account accurately for retireee health care benefits beginning in 2009. This is likley to produce a wealth of data in the near future. It has caused a great deal of controversey in the accounting profession but the info will be very useful

Thank you for the response. I’m sorry, all you need to put is crr.bc.edu and it should pull up.

    Martin,

Thank you for your response. I am just not putting pen to paper and once I get more research to back up my own assumptions, I will let you know how it turns out. We are trying to basically put in a standard firm wide for medical care costs.
