Replacement for desktop Naviplan Ext ver 9.0j

We are currently using Naviplan Extended Ver 9.0j as a desktop application.  We are looking for a replacement to this financial planning software as we recognize that this program will not be supported long term.  Our task force has looked at Financeware, eMoney, Moneyguide Pro, and Naviplan online but we are open to looking at other options.  Anyone care to comment on what they are using and if they like it.  Or better yet if you were in the market to purchase new financial planning software what would you buy?

You can look at Navi Plan Extended off line.  My problem with Navi Plan Extend Offline is that I have been told by EISI that Offline will allow you to display client models and compare them just like Desk Top. I have not figured out how to do this yet. I have also requested to talk to the President of EISI to convey my support for Desk Top. He has not returned the call

    Scott,

The new version of Naviplan Offline does not have the 'Planning Analysis' window which is what I think you are referring to.  Marquis with EISI told me that they removed it, but will be bringing back due to popular demand in Q1 of 2009.

Is there any way to inform Navi Plan that there are users who prefer Navi Plan Extended Desk Top?  I do not think that Off Line will ever be able to demonstrate “what If modeling” It is the strongest reason to own the software in my humble opinion.

I echoed your comments to EISI just last weekend at the Tools and Tech conference. I still haven’t converted to offline because they have not released the data file conversion tool yet. So I have no way to open all the files I created on the desktop version in the offline version. I only uncovered the removal of the planning analysis window while they were giving me a demo of the offline at the conf. Furthermore, I told them that my business depends on being able to show various what if scenarios and would be going to another provider if that didn’t become available again soon. You might try to call Dr Linda Strachan if you haven’t already she seems to be an advocate for planners.

I do like the fact that the new version  is an ASP application though.

Thanks, Please keep in touch on this issue with me. It is important.  Also, if NaviPlan does not listen, what software could replace Desk Top Extended?

Re: RE: RE: Replacement for desktop Naviplan Ext ver 9.0j

Thank you all for your responses and comments.  We have had online demos for sales reps from each of the four programs we are looking at (moneyguide, financeware, emoney and naviplan) and have loaded in actual client data and used it with existing clients during their annual review meetings.  Opinions are very mixed but here are the current thoughts.  Naviplan appears to be a cash flow based TVM linear program.  This is good for telling clients where their net worth might be in the future and for detailed cash flow projections.  The graphs appear very weak and the asset categories graph which was our companies favorite doesn't even show up.  Moneyguide pro is a monte carlo / goal based application.  Very different engine.  Weak graphics but easy interface.  Financeware is what planners like Kinder and Jetton appear to be using.  It is very monte carlo and is based on probability of your goals being accomplished.  It isn't cash flow based but a true retirement planner.  Very easy to manipulate the what if scenarios.  eMoney is a big expensive program that does financial planning as well as creates a client online vault and live screen scraping from over 4000 institutions.  This is a great way to keep up with away assets and to have a live balance sheet.  Their big push is IUM (information under management).  We have invited all four vendors to our annual study club/symposium in Scottsdale next week. All of Mercer's lead advisors and junior planners will be in attendance.  I think there will be about 60 CFPs present.  I'll let you know what happens.  I feel for the vendors :)

    Scott,

The new version of Naviplan Offline does not have the 'Planning Analysis' window which is what I think you are referring to.  Marquis with EISI told me that they removed it, but will be bringing back due to popular demand in Q1 of 2009.
